A-C-T Environmental & Infrastructure, Inc. (A-C-T) will hold their 9th annual Chili Cook Off on Friday, March 8 from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. In the wake of the destruction caused by Hurricanes Michael and Florence, A-C-T reallocated many of their resources to help mitigate environmental, health and safety concerns in the storm-ravaged areas. They made the difficult decision to postpone their 9th Annual Chili Cook-Off, originally scheduled for Nov. 2, 2018. All tickets purchased for the original date will be honored on March 8. The flavorful event helps A-C-T raise both money and awareness to support the United Way of Central Florida's efforts to improve education, income and health in Polk, Highlands and Hardee Counties. Things will heat up at A-C-T's corporate headquarters - 1875 W. Main St. in Bartow (Highway 60 just west of downtown Bartow).
The public is invited to participate by entering a chili and attending to enjoy the smorgasbord of chili and all the fixings. Chili entries are free. Each $10 lunch ticket includes chili, beverage, dessert, and entertainment. A-C-T offers to-go orders for pick-up. Local amateur chefs will enter their culinary masterpieces in three categories - hot (fiery, light-you-up!); mild (for the more sensitive palate); and imaginative (e.g. white chicken, vegetarian, gluten-free). Judging will begin shortly before the 11:30 a.m. start and winners will be announced as soon as the scores are tabulated. Speaking of Judges, the lineup of celebrity judges who will tempt their taste buds include: Sheriff Grady Judd; Adam Putnam; Shirley Wilkes, Lakeland Magic; Greg Littleton, President, Citizens Bank & Trust; George Long, City Manager, City of Bartow; Representative Melony Bell, District 56; Joe Wolf, The Mosaic Company, Vice President, Concentrates - Phosphates; Seth McKeel, Southern Strategy Group; and an on-air personality, 97 Country, 97.5 WPCV; A-C-T's Jennifer Kincart Jonsson had a vision for making the chili cook off a signature event for the company's annual fundraising campaign - "one that would have broad appeal and grow to involve as many community members as possible." The United Way of Central Florida receives all funds collected through this annual event. Last year's cook off featured 54 entries and raised $15,030 for the United Way. A-C-T expects this year's event to be an even bigger success. Since the first event in 2010, A-C-T's Chili Cook-off has raised more than $48,500 for the United Way of Central Florida. A-C-T is seeking sponsorships, chili entries and accepting donations for the event. Purchase tickets and/or make donations online at www.uwcf.org/chili<http://www.uwcf.org/chili>. All funds collected go directly to the United Way of Central Florida. For more information, contact A-C-T at 863.533.2000 x603 or [email protected].
