Our panel of judges will select award winners, and you will determine the People’s Choice Award. The evening will be rounded out with complimentary wine tasting sponsored by the Victor Smith Law Group, complimentary beer or non-alcoholic beverages, hors d’oeuvres and desserts. The event is a fundraiser for Winter Haven Public Education Partnership and Cypress Junction Montessori Charter School. About the Cause Two local non-profit organizations, with the shared mission of improving public education in Winter Haven, will each receive 50% of the funds raised. Both Winter Haven Public Education Partnership and Cypress Junction Montessori will invest the funds right back into our community’s students. Winter Haven Public Education Partnership PEP is a volunteer driven non-profit organization supporting quality and collaborative programs for Winter Haven’s public schools, teachers and students. Programs and initiatives range from providing opportunities to students and families with limited resources to encouraging innovative curriculum and connections to challenge Winter Haven’s brightest. PEP seeks to facilitate the innovation and connections necessary to make Winter Haven’s public school system one that effectively serves all students and is viewed as a benchmark for public school systems. Out of concern for the quality of Winter Haven’s public schools, The Greater Winter Haven Chamber of Commerce formed the Educational Outcomes Steering Committee in early 2011. The Committee’s task was to survey Winter Haven’s public schools and recommend strategies to improve the schools. Creating a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to support Winter Haven’s public schools was one of the Committee’s fourteen recommendations. PEP has since been refining and implementing the Committee’s other recommendations along with new initiatives. The dream is that every citizen in our community, from every walk of life, will join in PEP’s vision to get involved in our public schools. Cypress Junction Montessori CJM is Winter Haven’s newest public school. CJM offers an authentic Montessori education to students three-years-old through eighth grade. CJM’s story began in 2014 when three local moms decided they wanted a different option when it came to their children’s education. They banded together, expanded their team, and Cypress Junction Montessori opened in August 2016 making a new public education option available to Winter Haven families. Montessori is a method of education that is based on self-directed activity, hands-on learning and collaborative play. In Montessori classrooms children make creative choices in their learning, while the classroom and the teacher offer age-appropriate activities to guide the process. Many of the world’s innovators and influencers are Montessori students. Some names you may recognize are Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, Beyonce Knowles, YoYo Ma, Julia Child, David Blaine, Anne Frank, George Clooney, Taylor Swift, Wikipedia exec Jimmy Wales, Dakota Fanning and Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos.
