A staple of the Winter Haven insurance community since July 1983, State Farm agent Cheryl Beckert, former Chamber board member and 1999 Banker's Cup Citizen of the Year award recipient, will retire on December 31, 2015. Some may not know, Cheryl also led the citywide visioning initiative in 2000 that was integral in the redevelopment of the downtown core that we enjoy today. Celebrate her career and leave her a note of thanks in the comment section. Cheryl Beckert moved to Winter Haven with her husband Howard in 1976 where she worked for First Federal Savings and Loan later know as Freedom Savings & Loan from 1973 to 1983. In 1983 she opened her State Farm Insurance Agency in Winter Haven. Cheryl took the "good neighbor" slogan quite literally and has been given back to this community in many ways since the moment she arrived.
Bob Gernert, retired Executive Director of the Chamber who worked closely with Cheryl throughout the years, remarked "If I had to describe Cheryl in a word it would be 'dependable.' When you ask her to be involved or when she volunteers she is all in, makes every meeting and doesn't stop until the job is successfully completed. Her contributions to the city's visioning efforts have forever changed Winter Haven for the better." Perhaps what is most impressive about Cheryl's volunteerism is that she is a steadfast volunteer – decades dedicated to the same causes, rolling up her sleeves and working year-in and year-out. That's not something you see everyday. Oh, and how I could I forget, she has also served as Chairman of the Board for the Florida State University Alumni Association. Suffice it to say, I know we will continue to see Cheryl involved in the community, but for goodness sake, please take the R&R you so very much deserve.
