As you may recall, Stuff the Bus was a collaborative effort annually headed up by the Kiwanis Club. Support was received from concerned professionals and individuals who realized the importance of making sure that no child was left behind when the school year started. As many other groups are ably carrying on the collection of school supplies, the Florida District of Kiwanis is now focusing on providing basic needs for homeless students. This event is known as CHRISTMAS IN JULY. We are looking again for support from the community in this effort. There are over 1,000 homeless students in this area, and over 3,000 in Polk County. This year’s drive will be from June 1st through July 15th. Helping these students acquire their basic needs helps their self-esteem by being better groomed and clothed. It allows them to focus on learning while in school.
A financial donation will allow us to purchase personal supplies that are most in demand. An additional way you can help would be to allow us to place a bin with a list of needed items inside your facility starting the first week of June. These bins are much like the Toys for Tots boxes, which act as reminders and encourage your employees and customers to donate the listed items. We will be calling within the next few weeks to make arrangements to drop off a bin or pick up your contribution. Your checks should be made to the Winter Haven Kiwanis Club Foundation. Supplies needed include:
