![]() Knights of Columbus Council 7091 of Cypress Gardens donated $500 to Polk County Special Olympics during the organization’s annual Breakfast of Champions held on October 10 in Lakeland. Jim Sharak, a trustee of Council 7091, who serves as its liaison to Special Olympics, presented the check to Mike Long, director of Polk County Special Olympics and a member of K of C Council 10484 in Haines City. Jim Sharak’s son, Scott Sharak, a special athlete who also serves Council 7091 in the elective position of Warden, accompanied his father to the function. The breakfast was held in the First United Methodist Church in Lakeland and drew an estimated 150 special athletes and supporters of Special Olympics. Polk County Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and competition for 350 Polk County children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. In addition to competition in 11 different sports, the organization offers athlete leadership and healthy athletes initiatives.
