Knights of Columbus Council 7091 Presents Monthly Service Awards to Bob Bigg; John and Sue Ondrovic6/12/2018
Knights of Columbus Council 7091 of Cypress Gardens recognized its May distinguished service award winners at a recent meeting conducted in the parish center at St. Matthew Church in Winter Haven. Grand Knight Phil Pierpont presented the council’s “Knight of the Month” award to Bob Bigg and honored John and Sue Ondrovic with the “Family of the Month” award. They received certificates for their service to the K of C, St. Matthew Church and the Winter Haven community. Bigg was cited for chairing the council’s highly-successful 2018 Tootsie Roll Drive that raised a total of $3,159 which was shared equally by Polk County Special Olympics, the Alliance for Independence and the Achievement Academy. The drives were conducted at Publix supermarkets in Southeast Plaza and in the shopping plaza on Cypress Gardens Boulevard across from Legoland.
Bigg also helped with the council’s annual Easter Egg Hunt at St. Matthew and is a member of the Color Guard of its Frank J. Durbin Fourth Degree Assembly 2608 and a former council officer. He also is involved in a project honoring U.S. military veterans at his home community of Traditions. Bigg and his wife, Pat, attend St. Matthew Church. John and Sue Ondrovic were recognized for preparing and serving soup for parishioners at St. Matthew Church on five consecutive Friday evenings during Lent. John also helped with the K of C Easter Egg Hunt for children of St. Matthew parish on Easter Sunday and was part of a K of C crew that erected tiny crosses on church property in observance of Respect Life week. He is a member of the Fourth Degree color guard and serves the council as Inside Guard, while his wife is an active member and former officer of the council’s Columbiettes auxiliary. The Ondrovics attend St. Matthew. Knights of Columbus Council 7091 donates funds to local charities, supports pro- life activities and sponsors a number of projects for youth in the greater Winter Haven area, including an annual Spelling Bee, Basketball Free Throw Championship and Easter Egg Hunt.
