Lakeland Magic Dedicate Month of December to Help Those Affected by Homelessness Across Polk County12/19/2019 The Lakeland Magic dedicated the month of December to help those affected by homelessness in the community. The organization participated in multiple volunteer initiatives throughout the month to help local Polk County residents. Throughout the year, Lakeland Magic players, staff, partners, and season ticket members partnered with Habitat for Humanity of East Polk County, to build a new home for the Drawhorn family, a family of seven. The house was finished and dedicated earlier this month and the family was recognized at center court during the Lakeland Magic Home for the Holidays game. Lakeland Magic corporate partners and season ticket members donated home goods and cleaning supplies to the family. Publix Super Markets stocked the pantry with canned food, water, paper goods, cleaning supplies, food storage items and more as a part of their ‘Pack the Pantry” initiative. Lakeland Magic players wore dedicated Home for the Holiday’s jerseys on December 10 in partnership with Publix. All proceeds from an online jersey auction went to benefit Habitat for Humanity.
The Magic also teamed up with Talk of the Town Restaurant Group to raise money for Habitat for Humanity through their monthly Round Up Campaign. Throughout December at all Talk of the Town restaurants, guests can round up their bill to benefit Habitat for Humanity. To date, Talk of the Town Restaurants and the Lakeland Magic have raised more than $8,000 as a part of the campaign. The Magic also partnered with Lighthouse Ministries for a blanket drive. Lighthouse Ministries provides residential programs while feeding and sheltering the homeless throughout Central Florida. During halftime of a Lakeland Magic game, fans were asked to participate in a blanket toss by bringing a blanket to the game. At halftime all fans were asked to throw their blankets onto the court. They were collected and Lakeland Magic players and staff visited Lighthouse Ministries to donate the blankets to residents of the organization.
