With its fifth birthday approaching on Oct. 15, 2016, the resort staged a creative ceremony at its iconic entrance arch to reveal exclusive details about five exciting expansion projects set to debut over the next year. Read more about this exciting additions: LEGOLAND Beach Retreat - opening mid-2017 This whimsically themed vacation resort combines the fun of surf, sand and sun with the creative potential of LEGO on a picturesque site adjacent to Winter Haven’s Lake Dexter (click here for map of general area just slightly down street where road curves) . Distinguished by a colorful LEGO lighthouse, the lakefront resort will feature 83 single-story duplex units, offering 166 separate accommodations that can each sleep up to five, for a total capacity of 830 on-site guests. Designed with the same combination of imagination and kid-centric detail that made the 10-month-old LEGOLAND Hotel an immediate hit, LEGOLAND Beach Retreat offers an entirely new way to enjoy a multi-day vacation at LEGOLAND Florida Resort. Amenities will include a themed pool, a sandy play area, a buffet-style restaurant and regularly departing shuttle service to and from the theme park, plus an innovative guest service to be revealed at a later date that will make visiting the new resort as relaxing and hassle free as a trip to the beach. LEGO® NINJAGO™ World - opening early 2017 Inspired by the popular series of LEGO building sets and the long-running Cartoon Network show “LEGO NINJAGO: Masters of Spinjitzu,” this all-new, fully immersive land within LEGOLAND Florida theme park invites guests to step into a magical, martial arts world beginning in early 2017, where they’ll experience a first-of-its-kind attraction that blends eye-popping, 3D computer animation, “4D” atmospheric effects and groundbreaking new technology that lets them battle foes using nothing more than hand gestures. Like LEGO NINJAGO heroes Kai, Jay, Cole and Zane, up to four riders per vehicle can blast animated fireballs, lightning, shockwaves and ice as they travel through dojos to master their skills before heading into battle. Guests collect points for their training and battle efforts throughout LEGO NINJAGO The Ride and scores are displayed when their quest is complete. The ride is the epicenter of a new expansion area where multiple interactive experiences will hone guests’ physical skills, balance and agility before their ultimate test on LEGO NINJAGO The Ride. Creative Cove at LEGOLAND Water Park - now open Just opened at LEGOLAND Water Park is Creative Cove, the park’s first expansion since opening in May 2012, a fun new area that adds a uniquely LEGO attraction designed just for kids, additional dining offerings, increased seating capacity and complimentary Wi-Fi throughout the entire water park. At the brand-new Build-A-Boat attraction, kids can create and race LEGO watercraft through fast-flowing rivers in a setting inspired by the popular LEGO City Coast Guard building sets. Nearby, the existing Imagination Station lets little ones build and play with colorful DUPLO® bricks in a water-filled activity center. “LEGO NEXO KNIGHTS™ 4D: The Book of Creativity” - opening May 26, 2016 Set in the futuristic Kingdom of Knighton, this all-new theatrical attraction pits five young knights against the evil Jestro and his sidekick, the Book of Monsters, in a battle for control of a powerful book of magic that gives its owner tremendous power. Based on the new LEGO series of building sets and the just-launched Cartoon Network TV show, the 12½-minute experience combines 3D computer animation with “4D,” real-world effects that bring the high-tech action bursting off the screen and into the audience. The film debuts May 26, 2016, and will play multiple times per day in the theme park’s Wells Fargo Fun Town Theater, alongside “LEGO Legends of CHIMA” and the brand-new “The LEGO® Movie™ 4D A New Adventure.” LEGOLAND Night Lights - Summer 2016 Following the success of “The LEGO Movie 4D” Weekends in February, the resort will debut its second all-new event in June, a summertime celebration featuring extended park hours, meet-and-greet opportunities with favorite LEGO characters, exclusive opportunities to build alongside LEGO Master Model Builders and a brick-tacular, LEGO NINJAGO fireworks display that will light the night above Lake Eloise. Held exclusively at LEGOLAND Florida Resort, the party is included with regular park admission and will take place every Saturday and Sunday from June 18 to July 31. What does all this signal? Not to state the obvious, but Merlin Entertainments sees a strong future for tourism growth in Polk County. At the Polk County Tourist Development Council meeting this past month, Visit Central Florida staff reported that bed tax collections (the tax you pay when you stay at a hotel or vacation home) have gone up by 22% over last year. Last year was a record year for tourism collection in Polk County since they started keeping track decades ago. We have also seen statistics that show that since the LEGOLAND Hotel opened in May 2015, the average daily rate of area of hotels have gone up proportionally.
To quote a Merlin spokesperson, "We continue to believe significant opportunities exist for future expansion and growth in Winter Haven." To note, last night the Winter Haven City Commission also voted to approve LEGOLAND's annexation into the city limits, further strengthening it's partnership with the City of Winter Haven. ---- The exciting new projects continue the resort’s rapid growth trajectory since its October 2011 grand opening, including expansions such as LEGOLAND Water Park (May 2012), LEGO STAR WARS™ Miniland Model Display (November 2012), LEGO World of Chima™ (July 2013), DUPLO Valley (May 2014), LEGOLAND Hotel (May 2015), Heartlake City (June 2015), and phased restorations of the historic Cypress Gardens botanical wonderland, which recently celebrated its 80th anniversary. Merlin Magic Making, the creative division of LEGOLAND parent company Merlin Entertainments, will support the resort’s expansion efforts from its new North American production hub in nearby Lake Wales, Fla., where dozens of newly hired LEGO Master Model Designers and Master Model Builders dream, design and create dazzling works that will delight millions of guests at Merlin attractions worldwide.
