 The Law Offices of Elizabeth P. Davis, P.A. has just been recognized, by the Winter Haven Chamber, as Small Business of the Month for December. Elizabeth Davis specializes in criminal and family law practices in Winter Haven. She was awarded this prestigious honor not only for her work in the Winter Haven community, but her charitable work with the Guardian Ad Litem Program. The Guardian ad Litem Program is a volunteer-based state agency appointed by the court to protect the rights and advocate the best interests of abandoned, neglected and abused children in Florida's court system. In general, they are assigned to each child that is removed from both parents. As of early October, there are 2,200 children in Polk County alone that have been removed and the number is rising. At the same point last year, the number was only 1,700.  "I do not work for the Guardian ad Litem Program. While I am typically an attorney for a parent and sometimes a child, I am in all of the hearings and can see the need for help. It is true that foster parents and some relative caregivers can receive financial assistance from the state but it is seldom enough to cover things such as Christmas presents. My goal for the toy drive is to ensure that each child receives at least one gift." – Elizabeth P. Davis.
Every Christmas season, Elizabeth has partnered with Guardian Ad Litem to give children a brighter holiday season. Through this program she has opened up her business to be a drop-off location for people in the community to bring toys for children who have been taken from their homes due to neglect, abuse or abandonment. Partnering with Guardian Ad Litem has given her the opportunity to help children, who are in need, get gifts for Christmas even when their parents can't afford to. Elizabeth desires to bring Christmas cheer to these children for the holidays, but she can't do it alone. Elizabeth also shared with us how blessed she feels to have such wonderful community partners. “We are a two person office and this would be impossible without them. At the moment, we don't have the toy count from each business with a donation box. We have received approximately 250 presents in our office so far. We have a long way to go to reach our goal in the next eight days!” Elizabeth tells us that the Guardian Ad Litem Program is in need of volunteers. If you are interested, call 863-534-4605. There are 4 drop-off locations in Winter Haven where you can bring a gift to be taken up as a donation to the Guardian Ad Litem program. These gifts will go directly to Guardian Ad Litem to then be given to the children who are a part of the program due to difficult circumstances. Every gift given, no matter the size, represents a child who will be able to experience the joy of Christmas this year because of your donation. The Winter Haven Chamber has decided to hold a contest this year to raise more gifts than ever before!
