 Leaders of Knights of Columbus councils based in Lakeland and Winter Haven participated in a Florida K of C leadership training program on Saturday July 29 at headquarters of St. Joseph Council 2505 in Lakeland. The session was hosted by District 31 Deputy Joseph Grates of Lakeland, a member of the host council, on behalf of Region 3 Director Robert Rasch of Altamonte Springs, FL. During the program, council leaders heard talks on “Membership/Recruitment” by Region 3 Membership Director Robert Britten of Clermont; “Retention” by Region 3
Retention Chair James Laria of Clermont; “New Council Formation” by New Council/Reactivation Chair Gary Bishop of Lakeland; “Public Relations” by Region 3 Public
Relations Chair Ken Nelson of Winter Haven; and “Member Insurance Benefits” by Field Agent Chuck Lusky of Lakeland. Grates and District 31 Warden Arnold Saunders
discussed charitable and spiritual matters.
Representing the Lakeland-based councils were Grand Knight Mark Sagen, Deputy Grand Knight Richard Kelter, Financial Secretary Larry Holmes, Kenneth Jones and Jeff Trotter, all St. Joseph Council 2505; Grand Knight Dan Marino and Financial Secretary Robert Pezanowski, both St. Anthony Council 11651; Grand Knight Peter Karashay and Treasurer Keith McDonald, both St. Elizabeth Seton Council 10169 of Resurrection Church; and Grand Knight Jose Fonseca and Financial Secretary Juan Casanovas, both San Juan Diego Primero Council 13563 of Resurrection Church. The Winter Haven delegation consisted of three officials of Cypress Gardens Council 7091 — Grand Knight Phil Pierpont, Deputy Grand Knight Ken Nelson and Sal Porta, who attended in his dual roles of as a Trustee of the council and Faithful Navigator of its patriotic/ceremonial arm, the Frank J. Durbin Fourth Degree Assembly 2608. This was the first of four leadership training programs to be held in K of C Region 3, which contains 12 Central Florida districts with a total of nearly 60 councils. Future District 3 training sessions are scheduled for later this month in Palm Harbor, Clermont and Orlando.
