Marriott coming to Winter Haven

The long rumored development of the Courtyard Marriott is now official. Site plans have been filed for the first of two planned hotels intended for the property directly across the street from LEGOLAND Florida Resort, just north of the Chase Bank and Publix Shopping Center. This is the first of several anticipated hotel developments on Cypress Gardens Boulevard outside of Merlin Entertainments tremednous investment in Winter Haven accommodations.

The 111-room Marriott will sit on 12 acres of land on Lake Dexter, with the LEGOLAND Beach Retreat being their lakeside neighbor. This will be the largest non-LEGOLAND hotel in Winter Haven. There are no plans for meeting rooms or conference center, but the hotel does begin to fill the supply deficit of accommodations in Winter Haven outlined in the Winter Haven Economic Development Council's cooridor study.

Construction is anticipated to begin in June. The developer for this site is Murphco of Florida from the Jacksonville area. Murphco is a family owned business that has specialized in hospitality development since 1972 with properties in Louisiana and Florida. Their other brand flags include Hilton, IHG and Best Western. They hold a genuine desire to see Winter Haven's hospitality industry continue to flourish and seem excited to be a part of this growing family destination.

Adrian Jones, General Manager of LEGOLAND Florida Resort said in today's Ledger article, “Based on our guest surveys, 80 percent of LEGOLAND’s overnight guests would stay in Polk County hotels if better lodging were available.”

Yes, they developer is aware of the eagle and have worked to develop a modified site plan with the City and environmental agencies to ensure that the eagle's habitat is not disturbed and remains protected.

The Marriott will be having a job fair next week October 30 - November 2 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Winter Haven Gardens Inn and Conference Center.
