Article Provided By: Visit Central Florida  Polk County Tourism and Sports Marketing (PCTSM) is sponsoring the First Friday event in downtown Lakeland’s Munn Park on Friday, June 3, from 6 to 9 p.m., to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the invention of Water Skiing, a sport made popular in Polk County at Cypress Gardens. This free evening of family fun is a keystone event in a year-long calendar of events created and recruited by PCTSM to celebrate the centennial anniversary. Special guest star, Twiggy the Water Skiing Squirrel will perform, along with a live D.J. and local artist Bump Galletta creating live drawings. Munn Park will be filled with Water Skiing related vendors and tourism partners such as LEGOLAND Florida Resort, Bok Tower Gardens, Camp Margaritaville RV Resort, Ridge Island Groves and more, offering prize giveaways and giving residents a sample of the world class attractions that Polk County has to offer. Miss Florida 2021 Leah Roddenberry, and other candidates vying for the 2022 title, will mingle with the crowd for photo opportunities.
The year-long anniversary celebration will culminate with the 2022 International Waterski & Wakeboard Federation (IWWF) World Water Ski Show Tournament, Oct. 19-23, 2022, being held in Winter Haven, the Water Ski Capital of the World.
