 Yesterday, Publix, the largest employee-owned supermarket chain in the U.S. announced it's corporate office expansion to accommodate 700 associates. This new building will be 190,000 sqft and is planned to be completed by 2027. Currently, the Publix corporate office houses 1,400 individuals and this building was originally created for 1,200. Since it's founding in 1930, Publix has experienced growth that has caused them to burst at the seams. In 2001, they had 650 stores and accumulated $14.6 Billion in sales. Fast forward to 2018, where they have 1,198 stores, more than doubled their sales, entered three additional states and added 70,000 associates! These milestones have made a large impact on the economic state of Florida.
Governor Rick Scott and Publix CEO & President Todd Jones both expressed how proud they are of Publix and the economic success it has created. We are also excited to see that Publix is continuing their steady growth in our communities. This new expansion will open up more opportunities for employment in Polk County, as well as continued growth for Publix in the future. Congratulations on this expansion!
