Sal Porta is leading Knights of Columbus Council 7091 of Cypress Gardens as Grand Knight in the 2018-19 Columbian Year. He presided at his first meeting on July 9 in the parish center at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Winter Haven. This represents a return to the council’s highest office for Porta who served as Grand Knight in the 2013-14 Columbian Year when it last earned the prestigious Star Council award from the K of C. His goal is to repeat that accomplishment this year. Porta succeeds Phil Pierpont, who did not seek re-election to the council’s highest office but will continue in a leadership role as a Trustee. Prior to his election as Grand Knight, Porta served the council as a Trustee and was Faithful Navigator of the Frank J. Durbin Fourth Degree Assembly 2608, the patriotic/ceremonial arm of the council. In addition to his Grand Knight duties, he serves the assembly as a Trustee.
Other knights serving as council officers in the new Columbian Year are Deputy Grand Knight Ken Nelson, Chancellor Andrew Brownyard, Warden Scott Sharak, Treasurer Jerry Melnitzke, Financial Secretary Ruben Sanabria Advocate Ed Sheehan, Lecturer Billy Bob Morris, Inside Guard Adolfo Arteaga, Outside Guard Jose Masilotti, Three Year Trustee Phil Pierpont, Two Year Trustee George Marhefka and One Year Trustee Jim Sharak. The position of Recorder remains open.
