Today, Southeastern University announced its new partnership with the International Aero Academy to launch their new Aviation Pilot Program that will be offered in the 2019 spring semester. Over the next 15 years, there will be a worldwide shortage of 790,000 pilots; 200,00 of which will be needed in North America alone. Many aviation professionals are over the age of 55 and, in this industry, there is a required retirement age of 65. Southeastern and the International Aero Academy will be filling a need in the market by creating this program. The program will equip the next generation of pilots with the knowledge, tools and skills to be successful in this field. It will also provide students with real hands on experience that will position them to create strong connections with aviation professionals while they are studying for their certifications. This program will be the first of it’s kind, offering students the opportunity to come to SEU International Aero, get their aviation degree and make money while being a flight instructor. Trans State Airlines will also be apart of this partnership and will give students a chance to interview with the airline, prior to beginning any training. If they pass the interview, they will get a conditional letter of employment for a job with over $60,000 a year salary. SEU and International Aero have created and defined a program that is affordable and has never existed before. Students who join this program will enter the workforce 18-24 months sooner than any other aviation programs in the country and will also be a third of the cost of other aviation programs. This program will provide them with a chance to develop seniority in just 30 months. The Aviation Pilot Program will offer three degree opportunities. One will be the Associate of Applied Science, where students can focus on their flight training, then finish their general education all while building their flight hours. The second is a Bachelors of Science in Business and Professional Leadership where students will be prepared to enter aviation workforce as aviators in entry-level managerial roles. Lastly, the program will offer a Bachelors of Science in Aviation Management. This degree will be for the student who wants to live on campus at SEU and get the full college experience. By the time they graduate, they will have a full degree and will be ready to go into the field. Southeastern and International Aero expressed their excitement to start this innovative and one-of-a-kind program that will equip students for a career in aviation and create a solution to a national need. Editors note: With the Central Florida Aerospace Academy, Polk State's aviation degree program and now SEU's investment in pilot training, Polk County is quickly becoming a leader in aviation education.
