LOUISVILLE, Ky. – August 11, 2016 – Locally headquartered KFC is making sure visitors to its hometown receive a proper Colonel-approved welcome with its newly renovated restaurant at Louisville International Airport. The new restaurant is located before the security checkpoint in the food court area. Its redesign is part of the Louisville Regional Airport’s terminal enhancement project that began in mid-January and is expected to be complete later this year. “We are proud to be a Louisville-based company and we wanted everyone who traveled in and out of our hometown to have a top-notch KFC experience,” said Jason Marker, president of KFC U.S. The restaurant is operated by the Tinsley Family Co., a subtenant partner of HMS Host, the airport’s food and beverage operator. The company was founded under the leadership of George and Seretha Tinsley, along with their children George (G2) Tinsley II, and Penni Tinsley. George Sr., whose wife and children Penni and George are all Louisville natives, is a successful businessman and entrepreneur. Tinsley is a former professional basketball player and he worked at KFC before becoming a franchisee for the brand. He and Mrs. Tinsley, worked side by side when they became KFC Franchisees under PenGeo Inc., to build their first location into a world class operation. When asked what this project means to him, Tinsley states: “Having grown up in the Smoketown area of Louisville, Ky, graduation from Louisville Male High School, Kentucky Wesleyan College & playing for professional basketball for the Kentucky Colonels, Teaching and Coaching at LMHS and a 40 year history with KFC, where I worked side by side with Colonel Harland Sanders himself, we are excited to return to our roots with a phonemail business opportunity at the Louisville Regional Airport. Our business relationships as a sub tenant of HMS Host & LRA are a great opportunity for my family to get involved intently with the Louisville & Kentucky communities. We have a lot of, family, long time friends and business associates that we are looking forward to growing with.” “Mr. Tinsley has been an incredible partner of KFC since the 1980s,” said Marker. “It is very special for us to have a Louisville native operating one of the most visible restaurants in our hometown.” At 2,500 square feet, the restaurant is larger and more prominent than its predecessor. It features high-end finishes that connect to the brand’s heritage and its founder, Colonel Harland Sanders. “In the design, we wanted to honor the themes of the terminal enhancement project—distilling great experiences and setting a higher standard—while incorporating elements from our current ‘American Showman’ design being rolled out in our restaurants across the country,” said Brian Cahoe, chief development officer of KFC U.S. The airport restaurant features key elements of the American Showman design, with a local twist:
Exclusive Menu Item KFC at Louisville International will be the first in the U.S. to offer the world-famous spicy Zinger chicken sandwich on its permanent menu. The menu will also include traditional KFC items, such as Original Recipe® and Extra CrispyTM chicken a variety of homestyle sides.
