We know that we are lucky to have the ingenuity and high levels of quality of art that Theatre Winter Haven brings to our community. With the introduction of their newest event , they are aiming to secure the future of great theater in Central Florida. The Horizon New Directors Series is a three day festival to be held on Friday, November 11 through Sunday, November 13. During the festival three directors will showcase a short work. The audience can vote for their favorite. The director of the piece awarded the most votes will be named ‘Patrons Pick’ and receive a $500 cash prize. In addition, Theatre Winter Haven will be showcasing their entry for upcoming theater festivals and they have invited Eric Gutman (one of Broadway’s Jersey Boys) to anchor the festival and perform his show, From Broadway to Obscurity, on Sunday November 13. Three short works by new directors have been selected for presentation in repertory. Each finished play is required to be no longer than 40 minutes in length and must be set up and struck in an allotted 10-minute time frame. Attendees will have the opportunity to attend all shows and vote for their favorite piece.
NEW DIRECTORS (one performance each day): - Taryn Adams: Savage Love by Sam Shepard - Danielle Paccione: Honey Sweet X’s and O’s by Matt Siadak - Chris Walsh: A Game by Dennis Noble SATURDAY NIGHT FEATURE: - The Amish Project (produced by Theatre Winter Haven) SUNDAY NIGHT FEATURE: - From Broadway to Obscurity (written and performed by Eric Gutman, Broadway’s Jersey Boy) This weekend long event will include live music, food trucks and vendors set up in the parking lot of Chain of Lakes Complex for all to enjoy. All performances held on the Theatre Winter Haven stage will be part of one Showcase Pass, priced at $20 for adults and $10 for students. There is no charge to attend outdoor festivities held in conjunction with the showcase. Come and go as you please, enjoy the performances as they fit your schedule and take part in the food and activities. The festival will run Friday (11/11) from 7:30PM to 10PM, Saturday (11/12) from Noon to 9:30PM and Sunday (11/13) from Noon to 10PM. The official line up of performances times and events will be released in the coming weeks. Showcase Passes will go on sale November 1, 2016.
