This week individuals interested in running for one of the three city commission seats up for election are required to file and turn in their completed candidate packets by noon this Friday, September 18.
Just a few days into the filing period and things are already shaking up. There are six candidates currently filed as of Tuesday evening: 1. Nathaniel J. Birdsong, Jr. (incumbent; seat 2) 2. Kemp Brinson 3. Peter M. Chichetto (incumbent; seat 3) 4. Carmelo E. Garcia 5. James E. Hogan 6. James H. “JP” Powell (incumbent; seat 1) A few changes since I last wrote about the race. Joe Bogdahn withdrew from the race on Tuesday. Kemp Brinson has refiled, now running for seat 3 instead of seat 1. As it stands right now, Carmelo Garcia, James Hogan and Kemp Brinson are all running against incumbent Pete Chichetto for seat 3. Of course, things can change, and I will give you an update after filing closes on Friday. Remember, election day for the City Commission elections is November 3rd. Also mark your calendar for the Chamber Candidate Forum Breakfast on Wednesday, October 7th from 7:30 am - 9:30 am presented by the Chamber's Government & Legislative Affairs committee and sponsored by Sharit, Bunn & Chilton, P.A.
