Congratulations to Winter Haven Hospital for being awarded Large Business of the Quarter! Founded in 1926, Winter Haven Hospital remains a community-needs driven business, concentrating on providing quality healthcare, bringing the newest technology and treatments to the citizens of Polk County and addressing those health issues creating the greatest need for our area. A part of the BayCare Health System, Winter Haven Hospital includes a 468-bed acute care hospital and a 61-bed obstetric/gynecological specialty hospital, respectively referred to as Winter Haven Hospital and Winter Haven Women’s Hospital. Winter Haven Hospital is being recognized with this award because of their investments into the facility, the focus on addressing the most pressing needs of our community and the incredible level of community engagement and giving back. Winter Haven Hospital takes pride on providing the citizens of Winter Haven with quality healthcare. From their new 45,000 square foot Emergency room to their Discharge Hospitality Center, Winter Haven Hospital continues to invest in their facilities so that their patients can receive the best care possible. With an Emergency room this big, the hospital is able to see more patients, provide more services and increase efficiency all around.
The Discharge Hospitality Center was designed with only YOU in mind! This facility is all about creating a comfortable space for patients to wait after being discharged. Here, they receive concierge-type services, allowing for access to medical professionals and a comfortable place to wait to go home. These are only two examples out of countless others of how Winter Haven Hospital has gone above and beyond to invest in their facilities so that they can better invest in the health and convenience of the Winter Haven community. Access to primary care is a prominent issue in Polk County, so in 2017, Winter Haven Hospital formally contracted with Florida State University to begin offering Graduate Medical Education for family health physicians. The program will provide additional health access in our community and help recruit family health physicians to practice in the area. WHH and FSU will begin building the program over the next two years, including construction of a training facility, development of a curriculum and application for ACGME accreditation. Residents are expected to begin training in July of 2020. Beyond the walls of the hospital, they continue their investment in the community through education. The hospital does its best to have a presence at any health fairs or community health events that they can. While at these events, Winter Haven Hospital shares its resources with the community such as screenings, reduce-cost clinical care, educational tools and more. They also host classes open to the community like childbirth preparation, breastfeeding, babysitting basics and the list goes on. The Hospital was also instrumental in the development of a free clinic in Winter Haven called the Haley Center. This center has been open since 2005 and has successfully been providing free lad, x-ray and pulmonary function testing. Because this clinic was so successful, Parkview Church in Haines City requested counsel on starting a similar clinic in their community. Although Winter Haven Hospital has made many internal investments, they are continuously reaching their hands out to the community to help in any way they can. We could easily write a book about everything they do for this community! Through their investment in their healthcare services and facility, they are able to extend their reach to the greater community to encourage community connection and a brighter and healthier Winter Haven.
